Since my son,Tom,would soon be going away to college,I decided I’d better teach him how to do his laundry.I explained about reading washing instructions on the labels of clothes,not mixing dark colors with light ones,measuring detergent and determinning what temperatures to use with certain fabrice .We agreed that some practice would help,so he dutifully went to the basement for a solo attempt.

It was very quiet for several minutes.I assumed he was sorting the clothes.Then he called out,”Hey,Mom,which one is the washer?”
